The design of the cruiser was based on the project of the British company "Armstrong", which it created to participate in the competition for the construction of an armored cruiser of the Spanish Navy. After losing the competition, Sir Henry Armstrong sold the drawings to the American Navy. The ship was a typical version of the "Elsvik Cruiser" project, that Armstrong built in large quantities for export. Unlike its prototype, the "Esmeralda", the "Baltimore" had a high-side hull, raised forecastle and jute decks, which provided quite excellent seaworthiness for such a medium-sized water capacity. Like other "Elzvik" cruisers, it had no sail equipment. Naval historians consider "Baltimore" the best American cruiser built in the 80s of XIXth century.
From the magazine You can make a model of a cruiser, as the ship was in 1890. A fairly complex, well designed and richly detailed model for intermediate to advanced modellers. Double-sided printing of details is used, where necessary. There is a color reserve and some parts are printed with bronze "Metallic" paint. Short text instructions in Ukrainian, Polish, German, English. Very nice graphic instruction.
