At the beginning of the sixties of the 20th century the Soviet military fleet felt the need to increase the quantity and quality of escort and submarine defense ships in a limited water area. The tactical-technical task of designing the small submarine hunter "Albatros" was entrusted to Zelenodolsk CKB-340 in 1963. Its displacement was limited to 800 tons, the maximum speed was to exceed 35 knots. The design work was completed in 1965 and the first ship of this series was started to be built even before the end of the project approval - in 1964. 88 of the 90 ships, that started building, were built.

Although small, it is a very complex ship model, recommended only for intermediate and advanced modelers. By the way, two ships of this project - F11 "Žemaitis" and F-12 "Aukštaitis" - were also owned by the reestablished Lithuanian Navy.
