HMS "Starling" (U66) is a "Modified Black Swan" type sloop, that served in the British Royal Navy during World War II. Built by the "Fairfield Shipbuilding and Engineering Company" in Govan, Scotland, launched on October 14, 1942, commissioned on April 1, 1943. Made famous during the "Battle of the Atlantic", when he was the flagship of Support Group 2 (Captain Frederic John Walker). Together with other sloops of the group it participated in the destruction of a number of German submarines (U-Boot). U-202 - sunk on 2 June 1943 by depth charges and artillery fire off the coast of Greenland (HMS "Starling" only). U-119 - sunk by HMS "Starling" on 24 June 1943 in the Bay of Biscay. U-226 - Sunk on 6 November 1943 by HMS "Starling", HMS "Woodcok" and HMS "Kite" off the coast of Newfoundland. U-842 - Sunk by HMS "Starling" and HMS "Wild Goose" on 6 November 1943 in the Atlantic Ocean. U-592 - sunk by HMS "Starling", HMS "Wild Goose" and HMS "Magpie" on 31 January 1944 SW of Ireland. U-734 - sunk by HMS "Wild Goose" and HMS "Starling" on 9 February 1944 SW of Ireland. U-238 - HMS "Kite", HMS "Magpie" and HMS "Starling" sunk on the same day and location. U-264 - HMS "Woodpecker" and HMS "Starling" sunk 19 February 1944. U-653 - HMS "Starling", HMS "Wild Goose" and aircraft-torpedo carrier Fairey "Swordfish" from escort aircraft carrier HMS "Vindex" 15 March 1944 drowned in the Atlantic Ocean. U-961 - sunk by HMS "Starling" on 29 March 1944 east of Ireland. U-473 - sunk by HMS "Starling", HMS "Wren" and HMS "Wild Goose" on 6 May 1944 southwest of Ireland. U-333 – sunk by HMS "Starling" and frigate HMS "Loch Killin" on 31 July 1944 off the Scylla Archipelago. U-736 - sunk by HMS "Starling" and HMS "Loch Killin" on 6 August 1944 in the Bay of Biscay. U-385 – sunk by HMS "Starling" and flying boat Short "Sunderland" on 11 August 1944 in Biscay. U-482 – sunk on 16 January 1945 by HMS "Starling", HMS "Amethyst", HMS "Peacock", HMS "Hart" and frigate HMS "Loch Craggie". Reclassified as a frigate in 1947, sold for scrapping in July 1965.

A very complex, well designed and richly detailed scale model of the armed sloop HMS "Starling", but intended for intermediate and advanced modelers only. The level of detail is very high. The model has pages with double-side printing, there is a solid color reserve, excellent graphic instructions, and a "secondary" cladding is provided.
