SMS "Scharnhorst" is a German World War I armored cruiser. She was the first of a series of two ships of the same type, her keel was laid in January 1905, she was launched on March 22, 1906, and she entered service on October 24, 1907. Served as the flagship of the East Asia Cruiser Squadron. The squadron participated in the battle near Koroneli, where the British cruiser "Good Hope" was sunk by artillery fire. Sunk with the entire command and Admiral Spee's staff during the Battle of the Falkland Islands on December 8, 1914. Of the 860 people, who were on the cruiser at the time, no one was saved. In December 2019, the remains of the cruiser were found at the bottom near the Falkland Islands. Marine archaeologists from the Seabed Constructor sonar spotted the cruiser at a depth of 1.6km 100 nautical miles south-east of Port Stanley.
