Cutters of the "D-3" type were built at two factories in the USSR: Leningrad and Sosnovka, Kirov region. By the beginning of the war, the Northern Fleet had only two ships of this type. In August 1941 five more boats were received from the factory in Leningrad. All of them were included in the composition of a separate unit, that operated until 1943, when the Navy of the USSR began to receive the D-3 en masse, their number was supplemented by those received from the Allies under the Lend-Lease agreement. "D-3" differed favorably from its predecessors "G-5" torpedo cutters, although they successfully complemented each other in combat capabilities. The seaworthiness of the D-3 was much better and could operate at a greater distance from the base, than the cutters of the G-5 project. On experimental ships and serial "D-3" bugle torpedo machines were installed for the first time. Their advantage was, that You could fire torpedoes from them even while standing still, and the G-5 type cutters had to develop a speed of at least 18 knots, otherwise they would not be able to turn away from their launched torpedo. The D-3 type ships featured improved navigation equipment, compared to that found on the G-5. The flat deck of the D-3 allowed the ship to accommodate landing forces and also allowed it to move during combat operations, which was not possible on the G-5. The living conditions of the crew, which consisted of 8-10 people, allowed the ships to be operated for a long time away from the main base. Heating of the vital "D-3" compartments was also provided.

A small, simple, well designed and detailed model of a small torpedo cutter for modelers of all experience. However, a beginner and a modeler with little experience should work under the supervision of a more experienced colleague and take their time. In addition, it should not be one of the first models of greater complexity, that You glue.
