The cruiser was built by the "Forge z Schantje ge la Mediterrane" shipyard and belonged to the "Descartes" series of armored cruisers, built in Toulon and De Loire between 1896 and 1899. This class includes 4 cruisers: "Descartes", "Pascal", "Catina" and "Proteau". Only the first two were completed and put into service, their length reached 98.3 m (the other two were supposed to be longer - 100.1 m), the design power of the machines - 8500 h. p, the speed is 19.5 knots, but in practice it reached a speed of 20 knots, because the project machines were replaced with more powerful ones - 9500 h. p. The "Pascal" ship had a displacement of 4,050 tons, a width of 13.59 m, and a draft of 6.45 m. The cruiser is armed with 4 x 164 mm, 10 x 100 mm, 10 x 47 mm and 4 x 37 mm cannons. The ships of this class belong to the type of colonial cruisers, in terms of architecture they are very similar to the ships, built earlier, but they had reinforced armament. The bottom of the ship is covered with teak wood and copper sheets. The armor was not thick - 45 mm deck (60 mm in sloping parts), cabin - 70 mm, an additional anti-fragment deck was laid over the machinery and boiler room. "Pascal's" career was short and unsuccessful: after entering service in 1897, the cruiser was sent to French Indochina, where it served for 7 years. Due to wear and tear, it ended active service in 1904, dismantled in 1911.

A complex, small, well-detailed and well-designed model for intermediate to advanced modelers. The cruiser, like most of the "French" ships of that time, had unconventional shapes, which is why it is interesting for modelers. Great graphic instructions, where needed, double sided printing, bottom cladding and some details printed in "metallic" bronze and copper colors.
