USS "Osage" is a "Neosho"-class wheeled monitor, named after a Native American tribe. Built for the US Union Navy during the US Civil War. The keel was laid in mid-1862, launched on January 13, 1863, the construction was directed by James Eads at the shipyard of his company "Union Iron Works", Carondelet, Missouri. Entered service in July 1863 in Cairo, Illinois. After the construction work was completed, the ship patrolled the Mississippi River as part of Rear Admiral David Porter's escadre. In March-May 1864, the "Osage" participated in the Red River Company, specifically in the capture of Fort De Russi. He drowned on February 1, 1865, after hitting a mine. Later raised and dismantled.
