The dredging vessels “Gateway” and “Willem van Oranje” were built in the Netherlands at the “IHC Merwede” shipyard, the world's largest shipyard of this type. "Gateway" was launched on September 26, 2009, "Willem van Oranje" - on February 10, 2010. The then Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands became the godmother of the second ship. Both vessels were purchased by “Royal Boskalis Westminster N.V”., one of the world's largest companies, engaged in underwater earthworks. The main part of such works is the construction and maintenance of waterways and ports. Dredges raise soil from the bottom of the sea or river, creating harbor basins and shipping channels.
A complex, sizable, well-designed and richly detailed model of a dredger for intermediate to advanced modellers. By the way, it is possible to glue the model without the underwater part. Railings and some details are printed on transparent thin plastic. It is possible to make a model of either of the two ships, as different sides and stern details are given for both variants. There are also opportunities to improve this monster.
