„Hirta“– the Schottish fishery protection vessel

The fisheries protection patrol vessel "Hirta" was built at the Gdańsk shipyard "Stocznia Polnocna", belonging to the company "Grupa Remontowa". The design work was carried out in the Design Office of "Stocznia Remontowa", Remigiusz Ruszkovski was appointed as the project coordinator. The “Hirta” is of the same type as the “Jura”, built in Scotland. The ship's keel was laid on 15.09.2006, launched and christened on 17.06.2007, handed over to the owner in May 2008. “Hirta's” operational area is Scottish territorial waters and the Southeast Atlantic region. Its main task is to monitor compliance with international fishing laws (British, European Union and international). This is done to maintain ecological balance and protect marine resources. The ship's name "Hirta" is derived from the island of the same name in the St.Kildo Archipelagos, located 64 km from the Hebrides. The island has not been inhabited since 1930 and is a nature reserve together with other islands of the archipelago, and since 1986 it has been included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. A number of rare species of birds and rodents live on the island of Hirta.
