On 11 November 2004 “Trinity House”, together with its Scottish counterpart, “Northern Lighthouse Board”, ordered two multipurpose buoy construction vessels, “Pharos” and “Galatea”, in “Remontowa” Shipyard in Gdańsk. The design work of both ships took place in the Design-Construction Office of the “Remontowa” Shipyard. Lead designer Slawomir Niedzwiadek. The ships are built in Gdańsk North Shipyard. "Galatea" was launched on July 26, 2006. The ship was christened in London on October 17, 2007 and its godmother was the British Queen Elizabeth II. The vessel is designed to meet all the needs, arising from the service, repair and replacement of navigational buoys in any season and weather conditions. In addition, “Galatea” can perform other work in the open sea - towing ships, hydro-graphic surveys, marking sunken objects, transporting personnel and equipment. It can also serve as a base for other ships and helicopters, carrying out work in the open sea or ocean. Thanks to special positioning systems, “Galatea” can perform very precise maneuvers at sea and place buoys with an accuracy of 2 meters in wind of 6 points. The ship is equipped with a diesel-electric propulsion system. The ship's 5.5 MW diesel power plant produces electricity for the ship's 4 electric motors, which turn two azimuth stern thrusters and two tunnel thrusters.

A small, medium-complexity, well-designed and maximally detailed ship model for this scale, suitable only for intermediate and advanced modelers. Working under the supervision of a more experienced modeler, this model can be glued by a modeler with less experience, but there will be no room for haste, carelessness and it will certainly not be an easy job.
