Sea tug "Elbe" served from 1959 to 1976. For the first few years - until 1963 - she was the most powerful sea tug in the world. In 1959, together with two other tugs - "Tasman Zee" and "Schelde" - they towed the famous floating dock "Admiralty" from Portsmouth to Rotterdam. This event was widely covered in the then press for a long time. In the same year, “Elbe” towed two aircraft carriers from Boston to Antwerp. After a dozen years of service as an ocean tug, repaired and converted to pilot tender “Maryland”. In 1985, the organization "Greenpeace" became its new owner and it replaced its sunken flagship "Rainbow Warrior". In 2002 the ship was handed over to the Rotterdam Maritime Museum, where it was fully repaired and stands as a museum ship. The “Elbe” is the last large tugboat of its generation, an icon of Holland's rich maritime history. All other “Smit i Wijsmuller” owner tugs have been cut or altered beyond recognition. The “Clyde”, “Elbe's” sister ship, has been converted into a yacht.
Not too complicated, beautiful and well detailed model represents the tugboat, as it was in 1959. When working under the supervision of a more experienced modeler, this small ship model will be excellent even for a modeler with little experience. By the way, it is possible to glue the model without the underwater part. Railings are printed on transparent thin plastic. It is possible to make a model of either of the two ships, as different sides and stern details are given for both variants.
