The USS “Saratoga” (CV-3) was a “Lexington”-class aircraft carrier, built for the U.S. Navy in the 1920s. Originally built as a heavy cruiser, it was later redesigned into an aircraft carrier and built as such. The keel was laid on September 25, 1920, and lowered on April 7, 1925. “Saratoga” became the first U.S. aircraft carrier and join to the service on November 16, 1927. It was modernized several times before the war and was actively used. During the war he took part in many operations of the US Navy, the crew was awarded 8 “Battle Stars” medals. On January 21, 1942, the Japanese submarine “I-6” was torpedoed and “Saratoga” barely reached the port of San Diego, where it was repaired for 5 months. He was later hit by a torpedo and repaired again. On February 21, 1945, "Saratoga" was attacked by 6 pilots - kamikazes with explosive-filled “Zero” fighters and three reached the target, later it was attacked by 5 more killers, 1 reached the target. The ship, though badly damaged, arrived on its own in Pearl Harbor. The attack killed 123 and injured 192 sailors. After the war, the ship was destroyed during atomic tests in Bikini Atoll.
Beautiful, sophisticated, well-detailed and well-designed model for intermediate and experienced modelers. Two A3 detail sheets have been "delivered" for airplane models
