HMS "Vega" - British destroyer of World War I, interwar period and World War II. The ship's keel was laid in 1916, launched in 1917 in September, started service in December of the same year. The total length of the ship is 95.1 meters, width – 9.0 meters. Displacement was about 1300 tons, maximum speed about 34 knots. At the beginning of the service the armament consisted of four 102 mm and two 40 mm guns. HMS “Vega” was one of the “V” series destroyers. Ships of this type were designed for the best possible seaworthiness and with relatively strong artillery armament. Much attention was paid to the new technological solutions, used in other British destroyers of the First World War and before. Entering service from 1917, they were modern and successful destroyers, but their combat value declined over time. HMS “Vega” was involved in the final engagements of the First World War, where she was slightly damaged. In 1921 it was transferred to the reserve, but in the summer of 1939 it was modernized and turned into an anti-aircraft destroyer, and returned to active service. During the Second World War the destroyer served as an escort ship for convoys in the North Sea. During the war more and more modern electronic and radio equipment was systematically installed on the ship. In 1945 HMS “Vega” was placed in reserve again. At the end of 1947 sold for scrap.
A medium sized, complex, well detailed ship model in a mottled camouflage, suitable for intermediate to advanced modelers. Great graphic instructions, color stock available.
