“Vainamoinen” and “Ilmerinen” were commissioned at “Crichtоn - Vulkan SA” in 1928 at the Turku shipyard. “Vainamoinen” began service on April 29, 1932. In peacetime the two ships were merged into one team and took part in training, maneuvering, shooting exercises and visiting foreign ports together: Kiel, Spithed, Stockholm. With the outbreak of World War II in 1939, Finland declared neutrality, but was quickly included in combat operations by the aggressive actions of the USSR. Due to the ice conditions, the ship did not take part in the war, mostly defending the Åland Islands from Soviet aviation. When Finland joined Germany, the ships often accompanied the convoy, took part in a landing operation in Ristina on 13 September 1941, but “Ilmerinen” ran into mines, sank and the operation was stopped. In September 1944 Finland withdrew from the war and “Vainamoinen” was handed over as reparations to the USSR, where it was used until 1957 or 1958.
A sophisticated, well-detailed, beautiful camouflage vessel for average experienced and experienced modelers.
